Combining musicality with complex rhythm, Kaviraj Singh is emerging as a unique and celebrated talent of the new generation. He is the youngest artist to have performed at the prestigious Darbar Festival in 2008 and has shared his music widely at popular venues across India, Europe and the UK.

New Year New Artists: Josep-Ramon Olivé, Peter Moore, Kaviraj Singh, Anaïs Gaudemard, Amatis Trio & Heisk
See rising stars of the future as part of New Year New Artists, showcasing the UK’s most exciting contemporary musicians. Saturday afternoon brings a diverse range of musicians to the New Year New Artists festival.
One ticket price allows entry to all afternoon performances – a great opportunity to try something new and listen to music from a range of genres.

The three young classical artists have been selected by the leading concert halls in Europe from the European Concert Hall Organisation network (ECHO), as the leading chamber musicians of the next generation, Kaviraj Singh is presented with GemArts.

Josep-Ramon Olivé 1pm
Sage Two
Graduate of the Higher School of Music of Catalonia, and Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, Josep-Ramon Olive is one of the most respected baritone’s of his generation. Since winning the Guildhall’s prestigious Gold Medal in 2017 he has gone from strength to strength, performing with the London Handel Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonie and many other world-class orchestras. He has sung lead operatic roles from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro to Purcell’s Dido and Aneas, and also regularly performs as an oratorio soloist.
Josep-Ramon is currently a member of the Cappella Reial de Catalunya, and his upcoming engagements include a tour with Le Jardin de Voix.


Peter Moore 2pm

The youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musician Competition, Peter Moore is passionate about pushing the boundaries of the trombone and bringing it to a wider audience. Nominated by Barbican as an ECHO Rising Star, he this year gives the UK premiere of James MacMillan’s Trombone Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 18 he was appointed co-principal trombone of the LSO and was the soloist in residence with the Black Dyke Brass Band.
Described as having “all-too-rare artistry with which he displays the trombone’s subtlety and expressiveness” (BBC Music), Peter Moore discovers the kaleidoscopic possibilities of his instrument.

Anaïs Gaudemard 4pm
Northern Rock Foundation Hall
Internationally recognised harp soloist, Anais Gaudemard is not short of critical acclaim. In 2012 she was awarded First Prize at the prestigious International Harp Contest in Israel and has since gone on to receive awards at the ARD Competition in Munich and at the Festival des Sommets Musicaux. She has had the privilege of collaborating with some of the worlds most renowned orchestras including the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and she recently made her debut with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
Anais is committed to the creation and performance of new works for the harp, supported by a grant awarded by the Fondation d’Enterprise Banque Populaire.


Heisk 5pm
Concourse
Vibrant six-piece HEISK are a powerful new force on the folk scene. Their relentlessly energetic music stems from their roots in Scottish traditional music and combines it with punchy riffs and grooves.


Amatis Trio (Lea Hausmann, violin, Samuel Shepherd, cello, Mengjie Han, piano) 6pm

Founded in 2014, the Amatis Trio has quickly emerged as one of the leading piano trios among the new generation. Recent highlights have seen them perform at Wigmore Hall, the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and regular festival appearances including the Salzburg Chamber Music Festival and the Wimbledon Music Festival. They are set to continue this trend throughout the 2018/19 season as they perform in 23 of the most prestigious concert venues throughout Europe.
Passionately committed to contemporary music, the trio are working to encourage young composers to further the piano trio repertoire.
