Arnab Chakrabarty presents classical ragas on the sarod, accompanied on the tabla by Talvin Singh.
One of the most significant sarod players to have emerged on the Hindustani music scene in the recent decades, Arnab Chakrabarty is known for the distinctive sound and touch he has imparted to this traditional Indian instrument. He is also widely respected for his unwavering fidelity to the artistic values of the tradition.
Chakrabarty will be accompanied by the world renowned percussionist and composer Talvin Singh, OBE. Talvin has accompanied Ustad Imrat Khan, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, G.S Sachdev, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pt. Ronu Majumdar and has also celebrated his diversity in the field of music by collaborating with Sun Ra, Terry Riley, Yoko Ono and Bjork. Singh's Tablatronica sessions brought inspiration to a whole new generation of percussionists through his unconventional approach. Talvin has always pushed the boundaries of Indian Music and yet has been focused and dedicated to the practice and art of Tabla.
As part of GemArts Riverside Ragas, Arnab and Talvin's concert will be accompanied by an informative pre concert talk with Durham University's Dr Laura Leante, free to ticket holders.
