The Patterns of Our Lives exhibition
"The patterns of our different cultures is woven into our everyday lives to tell stories about who we are” Culture Exchange group participant.
GemArts presents The Patterns of Our Lives, a showcase of beautiful textiles and photography art work created by members of the Culture Exchange group from Barnardo's Community Family Hub East, Byker.
Over 14 weeks the Culture Exchange group worked alongside GemArts professional artists Emma Sheridan and Sarah-Jane Scott exploring memories, patterns and cityscapes through silk painting, collage, portraiture, drawing and photography. The women took inspiration from their own lives, and the surrounding area in which they now live.
The Culture Exchange group was established to combat social isolation, giving women in Byker the opportunity to make new friends as well as learn new skills. The women who attend the group come from all around the world including: Afghanistan, Albania, Africa, China, India, Lithuania, Romania and Newcastle.
The project was delivered in partnership with Barnardo's Community Family Hub East Byker, funded by Byker Community Trust.
