Riverside Ragas Rakesh Chaurasia
Rakesh Chaurasia is hailed as one of the finest bansuri masters to emerge from India and follows in his uncle, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia’s footsteps. This concert will take audiences on a wonderful musical journey with the magical sound of the Indian bansuri, which is attributed to Lord Krishna from the Hindu Dharma.
Rakesh’s forte is in blending his flute without really losing its identity in mixed instruments’ concerts. Rakesh has already globe trotted many times over, enthralling audiences at classical and non-classical concerts. Despite his experimental work, Rakesh is a dedicated classical musician. He has regularly appeared in prominent festivals such as the WOMAD festival, Womad Earthstation, the ‘Festivals of India’ in Russia , Japan , USA , and Europe. Global recognition has brought him invitations to perform solo at major events within India and abroad, including the Festival of Saint-Denis in Paris and the Leicester International Music Festival in here in the UK. Most notably, Rakesh was invited to conclude the twenty-four hour live BBC Radio broadcast celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee, broadcast to audiences worldwide.
Accompanying Rakesh on tabla for this concert is one the UK’s most vibrant and fast emerging talents, Gurdain Rayatt.
Other Riverside Ragas this season include SANGAM on 22nd October.
