Join GemArts for An Evening of Indian Imagination, when Ranjani Ramachandran, a leading vocalist amongst classical singers of khyal, comes to Palace Green Library in Durham. Khyal is one of the most popularly performed vocal genres of Hindustani music in North India, attracting audiences across the globe. Having studied with eminent artists Ranjani regularly performs around the world, and has been awarded a number of distinguished prizes.
Ranjani is faculty member of the Department of Hindustani Classical Music at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal. A recipient of the Charles Wallace Trust scholarship, supporting her time at Durham University, Ranjani is currently carrying out postdoctoral research on “Advanced techniques of analysis in khyal performance”. This Musicon concert forms part of her residency in Durham.
Accompanying musicians Shahbaz Hussain – tabla, and Kaviraj Singh – harmonium.
