Riverside Ragas: Arnab Chakrabarty, Vinayak Chittar and Sanju Sahai
A very special Double Bill Concert, featuring Arnab Chakrabarty on sarod and Vinayak Chittar on sitar.
Both musicians are deeply influenced by the khayal style of vocal music following in the footsteps of great legends, and their performances are stamped with the indelible imprint of each other’s' stylistic heritage and creativity. Through his discipleship of Arvind Parikh and P G Parab, Vinayak has inherited the best of the respective legacies of Vilayat Khan and Ravi Shankar, and used skills from these sources in his own unique way, to arrive at a highly original style of sitar playing, and is widely considered a sitarist's sitarist. Arnab is a pupil of the late Kalyan Mukherjea, and represents the musical lineage of the legendary Radhika Mohan Maitra. Influenced considerably by Vilayat Khan and Ali Akbar Khan, Arnab is also one of a kind, with arguably the most recognizable individual sound of any sarod player performing today.
Each artist will play separate solo sets accompanied by the great tabla virtuoso, Sanju Sahai, before coming together for a grand finale.
The evening promises to be a truly moving experience with the opportunity for deep, involved listening as GemArts presents these world class musicians.
As part of GemArts' Riverside Ragas series this concert includes an In Conversation with Dr Laura Leante from Durham University, sharing insight into the genre, the artists and her academic research. Free to ticket holders.
