Launching GemArts brand new concert series, Riverside ragas is the excellent Dr Vijay Rajput. Born in New Delhi, and now based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Vijay is disciple of the illustrious vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, and one of Britain's most talented Indian classical singers. A maestro of the 'khayal’ style from the north Indian tradition and an artist of international repute, Vijay’s performances have mesmerized audiences in India and abroad.

Vijay Rajput is currenty based in Newcastles, and is a visiting lecturer in vocal music at Newcastle University and Leeds College of Music. For this concert Dr Rajput is accompanied by 2 outstanding UK based musicians, Rekesh Chauhan on harmonium and Saleel Tambe on tabla.
