A2B Festival - Sumit Sarkar Graffiti Workshops

GemArts co-delivered a youth arts project with The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and South Lakeland Young Carers, a pilot project that gave groups of young carers from across South Lakeland the opportunity to devise and create their own urban street culture. Through consultation with the Young Carers to find out what art forms and cultural activity they would like to learn about and participate in, the results showed a strong interest in multi-cultural, urban arts forms such as Street Dance, Graffiti Art, Animation and Rap/Hip-Hop.

Beginning in April 2010, the Young Carers tried out a variety of taster workshops led by GemArts artist Sumit Sarkar. Working with the ideas and aspiration of the young people, Sumit and the young people created large wall pieces that were used throughout the A2B Festival in 2011.
