Don't Do It - We Rise Up! Anti Discrimination Music Project

GemArts delivered high quality, participant focused music workshops working in partnership with two Gateshead primary schools to explore issues related to anti-bullying, discrimination and Hate Crime, with the aim of promoting community cohesion and a greater understanding of these issues.
 
Using song writing and music, young people explored the theme of "respect". Respect of the diversity of other peoples cultures, communities, faiths and languages. 44 young people, aged 7-11 from Chopwell and St Wilfrid's Primary, worked alongside professional musicians Kema Sikazwe and Adam Cogden. The young people engaged were from diverse backgrounds, including young people with English as an additional language, Travellers and Roma young people.
 
The project positively promoted and explored diversity within Gateshead and gave students the opportunity to work together, learn and share each other’s experiences, using creative lyric writing and music activity to explore the topic.
